The Rush Family Birth Center was designed to make your baby's birth day an extra-special event for you and your family. At the Family Birth Center, you will find outstanding medical care with an emphasis on excellence and care that is highly responsive to your personal needs and wishes.
The birth of a baby involves every member of your family. At Rush Foundation Hospital, our family-centered approach to birth is designed to help everyone in your family-grandparents, siblings and other loved ones- bond with your newborn. This is not a new concept for Meridian; Rush has been doing family-centered maternity care since 1988. Rush is proud to have been the first hospital in the state to implement family-centered maternity care.
At Rush, we believe every baby is special and unique. The Family Birth Center is a place where the technology is advanced yet the setting is cozy and warm. We have years of experience with our family-centered approach to birth. Our NEW Family Birth Center features comfortable birthing suites where patients can labor, deliver and recover in a private room. Each suite is equipped with an adjustable birthing bed and medical equipment needed for delivery. The suites and private rooms are more like home than hospital rooms, and each has a private bathroom and whirlpool tub.
Rush Hospital is proud to serve you with competent nurses who are certified in Obstetrics, childbirth educators certified by the International Childbirth Education Association, International Board certified Lactation consultants, neonatal nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, neonatogists, and OB/GYN physicians. We encourage you to keep your baby with you as much as you want. Throughout your stay, the FBC nursing staff will assist you in learning to care for your newborn and yourself, offering helpful suggestions and demonstrating techniques to prepare you for your first few days at home.

The Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at RFH is a 12-bed intensive care nursery. It forms an important link with the state regional newborn network at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Through a cooperative partnership in perinatal care, infants with special needs receive the best care possible.
Teamwork, bedside care by a neonatalogist, on-going communication with families, and unlimited visitation all combine with quality beyond medical skill to bring babies a special quality of care. Any infant born in Meridian has access to the Rush NICU services if the baby needs them. Inner-city transport from other community hospitals to Rush NICU provides access to facilities, and personnel necessary for intervention and stabilization of the compromised neonate. The NICU is equipped with much more than the latest in medical technologies. Here, one finds a very special sensitivity to the needs of mothers, babies, and their families.
If your newborn needs special care, we provide it in our NICU. Our NICU has Nationally Certified Newborn Intensive Care Nurses. Your baby will receive the highest quality medical treatment and nursing care. Our unit is family-centered and recognizes there is no substitute for the love and attention you have to offer; therefore, parents and grandparents are encouraged to visit. We want you to bring any special toys and clothing for the baby, as well as pictures of brothers and sisters.
Online Nursery
Rush Foundation Hospital's Online Nursery is a special place for parents to share pictures of their new babies with others.
After a baby is born, parents have the option of having their baby's picture taken. If the family chooses to participate, a company called Growing Family will process the picture and post it on their web site. There is no charge to have the picture taken or post it on the site. Parents can order copy of the pictures for fees outlined in material provided by Growing Family. The pictures are made available on the web site 5-7 business days after the baby has been born.
